Finishing the Stars

The last 2 Stars are made and the year long Time Warp Stars from Barbara Brackman have come to an end. It has been very enjoyable learning about the different fabrics and the history of them.

I then spent some time cutting the fabric and sewing together all 99 Stars. I have had metres of a 1830 Cheddar and Illuminations repro fabric for a lot of years in my stash and it was great to have an appropriate reason to use it.

Another 'Under the Cherry Tree' block finished.

This month the borders have been put on my Sue Spargo BOM2015 quilt so quite a few things are coming to an end,  just like this year.

Spring.

Melbourne is known for it's changeable weather. Warm and sunny one day, torrential rain the next. It only lasted about 10mins but it certainly came down.

and when it rains like that our overflow certainly works. It helps not having a flat block of land and it runs down the driveway.

Last weeks Time Warp Stars asked for Provincial Prints and this is what I used.

and this weeks Stars, Roller Print Clouds and Storms. I had these two in my stash.

Stars, Stars and more Stars.

Week 40 and the Stars are Cadet blue

and Celestials.

Week 41 Neon

Week 42 Sprigged Muslins

and also Indiennes.
What I have used are not 'old' or 'repro',  but originally fabrics from
India were known as Indiennes .
I have used these Indian cotton fabrics that were
from a stall, at the Melbourne Quilt show.
The trader had piles of fabric squares of every colour and
design and I bought a few at the time.

Not counting the last eight Stars here is my bundle. I believe making them is coming to an end so I will now have to decide what setting I am going to use.
How far will Ninety stars go?

New Fabric

Early in September I was asked if I would like to use some new fabric being released at Market in Houston, and I happily said yes. This large envelope then arrived and inside

were these beautiful fabrics.
This is part of the first range of fabrics from Mary Fons called Small Wonders,
 for Springs Creative.

After deciding what to make I set to and did some cutting. Can you see the little elephants on the white  and the little elephants, camels and palm trees on the navy.

and this is what I made. ( Yes I know, another bag but you also know I love making bags. )

Here is the inside pocket - I did manage to use all the fabrics.

Tah - Dah.

As market was at the beginning of the week this fabric range is now available and will be in the shops soon.

Spring sewing time.

I finished my Country Roads mystery quilt by Lori of Humble Quilts blog. It's a great small quilt and I enjoyed making it.

Week 38 of Time Warp Stars and this is my Asian-style and Black & Grey Stars.

Week 39 Claret Red Stars.

Week 36 was Lancaster blue and Greek Keys. I made the blue stars but only found fabric in my stash with Greek Keys yesterday. I didn't think I had any, but I'm finding I'm looking at my fabrics in more detail now.

This weeks stars are cut but not sewn yet, I'm still busy stitching Sue Spargo's BOM 2015.
It will be revealed when it is finished. Just two more months to go.

A little bit of everthing.

To start with my Cross blocks set on point and finished. The background fabric is a light grey
with  pinhead dots in several colours.

Next my Under the Cherry Tree with a couple of extra dots. What a difference that makes.

My 2nd Lancaster Blue star with fabric from a friend.

and my second Chocolate and Blue. It's dark brown on this fabric and really lovely.
Another gift from a friend.

I took part in an online Autumn swap and this is the small quilt I received.
Isn't it wonderful. Thank you Dixie.

And continuing the online theme. This is the mystery Doll quilt from Lori,
at Humble Quilts on Facebook. Like all the patterns she shares, it is another lovely one.

I just need to quilt and bind it now.

How fast can a month go.

Coming home after a couple of weeks away to find the Almond Prunus in all it's glory.

I managed to finish the last of the Cross blocks I had cut out, to find if I wanted to set them on point I need another seven. A job for another day.

Lori, Humble Quilts blog's new Mystery Doll's quilt started.

First up two Cretonne stars.

and two Bronze stars

and a Lancaster Blue star.

This month's Under the Cherry Tree block minus all the berries and some of the grapes. TBC.

All I see is a face. I need to add more small circles on the vase or remove the 'mouth'. Do you agree?

August

Before the month of September arrives I need to add the blocks I have finished in August.
I always like something for sewing on the machine and here are the latest blocks I have been making. I need quite a few more as they are only 5 1/4" in size. I have been using my Japanese Taupes and Linen fabrics for them.

The Time Warp Stars for the last fortnight, two with Toiles and 2 with Trailing Vines.

and a simple block for Under the Cherry Tree quilt.

Tinkering.

A number of weeks ago Joan from Vibes and Scribes in Cork, Ireland, sent me a piece of fabric from her Fabric and Craft shop. It seemed perfect for some Broderie Perse to be stitched on top of it. I have been trying out several floral fabrics and have settled on this Toile.

As you can see it is very early days and the joins all show. Trimming and stitching to follow. The second photo gives a better likeness to the colour of the fabrics. Later on I want to use it in the centre of a quilt.

Here is a link for Vibes and Scribes  The shop has a lot of different fabric and craft items and something I've been looking for after my local supplier closed, Dylon dyes which I use for my felted wool. Just something else to keep me busy. Thanks Joan, for the fabric. I hope you like what I'm using it for.

Stars

The Time Warp Stars for last week were Indigo.

and this week's Stars are Lapis Blue.

Recycled - with many seams.

and my July block, for Under the Cherry Tree. Just finished it in time.
