I've been doing a little sewing..

...throughout the year and not showing it on my blog, until now. I first saw these blocks
here and just liked them so much I knew I would make them one day. Meredithe drew up the block for me with all the measurements and I never realised until I saw the draft that there are 96, yes 96 pieces in each block.  It's been slow going but I am really happy to have it finally finished.

I have used a large selection of different blacks, blues, reds and shirtings. Just one question to ask... Do I add a border and if so what colour?

  1. The question is a tough one, just looking at the picture, light gray for a border or binding, but I would not sew a border on it. Looks great the way it is.

  2. I would ask yourself what size you need it to be, and add a border only if you need it to be larger. I think a blue or red binding would be all it needs to set it off. It's a lovely quilt.

  3. Wow, that is a lot of pieces in one block! You sewed all those pieces well.

  4. Your blocks look fabulous! They look so much like the antique blocks that Tim Latimer showed on his block. I liked them so much I made four blocks and got stuck. Something about those 96 pieces I think... My first thought is medium grey border with red binding :0) I look forward to seeing what you decide.

  6. Ninety six pieces! Amazing effort. I'm sure it would look great either way, but I prefer no border.....let all that piecing be the star.

  8. Beautiful ! and to call it 'a little sewing' is quite an understatement! I know however you finish it will be perfect but think I'd go borderless ...and a red binding might set it off nicely?

  9. I'm partial to no borders on reproductions, but I'm sure whatever you add will be lovely! What great blocks!

  10. WOW! Such work but what a quilt it makes! Stunning! I think I would go with homespun or plaid border in the black or indigo ... maybe ... It already looks so good maybe I wouldn't add anything.

  12. Turned out just wonderful. I am in a no border phase on reproduction quilts. Most I have seen do not have a border. I think this one is beautiful just the way it is.

  13. Wow, what a gorgeous quilt and congratulations on finishing the top. Maybe take the quilt into a shop and audition border fabrics. The quilt will tell you what it needs.

  14. Very beautiful. No border, is my vote. Is it two contrasting blocks or is the geese a sashing? Exceptional.

    1. The block is 10" in size and includes the 1/2square triangles that makes the 'flying geese'. When I sewed the blocks together it gave the 'other' block visually and what looks like a flying geese sashing. Having 96 pieces to make a block has had some added bonuses.
