and June is nearly gone.

Almost half way through the year. I'm convinced each year gets faster.
This week's Time-Warp Stars are with fabric called Fancy Machine Grounds. In other words it's all about the background and the small design that shows behind the main print. I'm finding out just how much I look, really look - or not, at a fabric when I buy it. I really like the two fabrics I have used this week but they have been in my stash for a while and remain unused although I may have a spot to use the top one.

 

 

 

 

 

and also for June, the next block for Under the Cherry Tree.

 

 

 

Wimbledon and the tennis for the next two weeks. I have prepared the next block to sew while I watch and will get on with my Mrs Millar's Journey block.

 

 

 

 

Happy with a finish.

I made this quilt last year, a block at a time. I saw the blocks  Here a couple of years ago and Meredithe  kindly draw up the measurements for me. It took me most of the year to make the blocks as there are 95 pieces in each one and I just love it. I got it back from being quilted and put the binding on this week.

 

 

This week's Time Warp Stars have used Blotch-Ground chintzes. Where the colour doesn't quite fill the space it's meant to.

 

 

 

 

 

The shortest day has passed and we are heading back to Summer and warm sunny days. Hopefully it will arrive early like this Winter did.

 

 

 

 

Progress.

In the last two weeks I have made Time Warp Stars with Neat Stripes and for this week, White Ground Chintzes. The red with the black stripe is a piece of antique fabric I bought a while ago and the 'pink' with the tulips is more of a peach colour. It was a 10" square of fabric that was never quite the right shade, that kept going back in the stash, but has now found a place of it's own.

 

This weeks two Stars are Chintzes, both polished and cotton. The star on the right has lost most of it's sheen because I washed the fabric.

 

 

and a change from the last blog. Three finished. They will surround the big red flowers but the baskets will be on the outside edge. The background fabric has a pattern so I have sewn the applique on to keep it running in the same direction after I sew the blocks together.

 

 

 

The weather has been rather chilly so it is lovely to stay in and stay warm and sew.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Two sewn and two to go.

I tend to spend a day getting the next block prepared in whatever is on the go and then I can just pick them up and sew a bit now and then. This is how the second block for the Mrs Millar's quilt got sewn, along with all the other bit and pieces. Yesterday was prep day so I have No3 ready to go and the next block for Under the Cherry Tree too.  

 

 

I can't resist these Stars. As soon as they arrive, in my emails, I'm off scrounging for the right fabric. This week is Eccentric prints. I think I should have made the first Star with the two fabrics around the other way. The background seems to dominate in the photo and I didn't notice that, when I had it in my hand.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

More of the Same

This week's fabric was Serpentine Stripes. The two that I chose were featured in the Time Warp Stars history lesson about these fabrics. They have both been in my stash for a while.

 

 

 

and this month's block for Under the Cherry Tree. The fabric for the bird in the centre had been too worn to show the colour on the original quilt so I decided to make it purple, and I also gave it a trimmer body.

 

 

 

 

I am still busily working away on Sue Spargo's wool BOM which has numerous bullions to be stitched etc and is keeping me totally, happily occupied. I think everyone will love this wallhanging when it is revealed at the end of the year.

 

 

 

 

Time Warp Stars

Continuing to make the Time Warp Stars. Last week's fabric was Conversational Shirtings.
I picked the orange and yellow designs because I had not used these two colours in my Stars so far, not knowing.......

 

 

........this week's fabric was going to be California Gold.

The right-hand fabric was mentioned in Barbara Brackman's blog and she described

the colour as Butterscotch. I also found a little floral among my fabrics that is the same,so I have used that for my second star to represent this week's colour.

 

 

 

I have a bookcase style of cupboard and my fabrics are stacked by colour,

so when I took out the bundle of yellow/gold I found a scrap of Jo Morton's, paisley shirting for my blocks in just the right colour and there was enough to make the two stars.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Reproduction Stars.

I decided to make two of each fabric for Barbara Brackman's Time-Warp Stars. I am now up to date for the sixteen fabric variations. I have managed to find all these fabrics in my stash except for the 'Ombres' . Karen of Somerset Patchwork kindly gave me a piece of blue and brown ombre for my two stars. The second pair of two greens I have used may not be exact but they both have a very definite yellow dye, over the green on the back of the fabric so I am using them to represent the ' overdyed greens' theme. The first set of green stars are Poison Greens.

 

 

 

 

 

The added bonus to searching through my FQ's to find what is needed for each week's requirement is the refolding I'm doing, resulting in a tidy tidier cupboard.

 

 

 

 

 

One more of everything.

Trying to keep up with a bit of everything.
I stitched the applique on the first block with the basket. There are four blocks like this and I'm going to use the same fabrics for each one.

The  next block for Under the Cherry Tree. I'm still managing to get one sewn each month so this is number 7. Maybe the next one will have fewer leaves.

 

 

 

 

and two more Civil War Stars. This week Woven Plaids. Learning the history behind the fabrics is an added bonus.

How Time Flies................

 

April has been a busy month with a couple of family Birthdays, Easter and a trip to the Melbourne Quilt Show.

I finally took a photo of my GS quilt hanging up in his room.

 

 

 

A quilt in progress, a pattern from the workshop with Marg Sampson-George. I have had this lovely antique floral fabric for a couple of years and didn't want to cut it up too much, so this pattern was just what I needed to show it off. I need to find a fabric for an inner border to go between this and the 9-patch final border.

 

 

 

I enjoyed a trip to the Melbourne quilt Show last week and  I bought some more Japanese Taupe fabrics. I want to make another quilt using them, so I bought suitable pieces for backgrounds.

 I got a couple of FQ from Lu'cello's and some fine wool for stitching my Sue Spargo's BOM which is coming along beautiful but unfortunately I can't show you until the BOM finishes.

This project is keeping me very busy with all the embellishments Sue adds to her quilts.

 

 

 

 

Stars.

I started making Barbara Brackman's 'Stars in a Time Warp'. Each week on her Blog there is the history of a different fabric and pictures of star blocks. You can make one or as many Stars as you wish using that particular colour or type of fabric. At the moment I have only made one in each but I hope to make more later on, as I have several fabrics in each variation except for the Overdyed Green.
 So far we have had Turkey Reds - Prussian Blues - Shirting Prints - Chrome Orange or Cheddar - Overdyed Greens - Double Pinks - Madder Prints -Indigo Blue - Chrome Yellow - Green Calicoes and Purples.

My other project - Mrs Millar's Journey -  is progressing slowly. This is one of four baskets on the side blocks of the quilt and I have two of them stitched down.  

 

Time to sit and sew and watch the World Cup Cricket final.

 

 

 

 

March

I have started off with a photo of the next block that I have finished for the Under the Cherry Tree quilt. I'm glad to have the berries sewn on as there was quite a few.

 

Then I started a new quilt and this is the centre block for Mrs Millar's Journey quilt designed by Liz Willing. The large leaves and flowers overlap onto the surrounding blocks and will be sewn down when the blocks are attached.

 

 

A couple of visitors to the garden. They were quite happy to sit there and devour our tomatoes straight off the plants.

 

 

Last Friday I went to Ballan with a couple of friends and saw this quilt show. It had been put on by Millrose . Patchwork shop, cafe and accommodation.

I did finish my Grandson's cot quilt and forgot to take a photo before I gave it to him.I'll take one when it gets hung up.

 

 

 

 

 

Sewing things

I'm still sewing the wallhanging which can't be revealed yet but here's another 'critter'
that has found a place to hang on to. A Green Tree Frog.

 

and when I wasn't at the sewing machine I finished another block for the Under the Cherry Tree quilt.

 

It was such a beautiful day I washed my Civil War Brides quilt and with the wind blowing it has dried and is ready to use.

January 2015 - just made it.

I have spent the Summer holidays making a quilt that I've had the pattern for, for a long time. Pumpkins and Turkeys by Jan Patek. Just one of those patterns that hangs around in the bundle of 'one day', you know what I mean.

 

The next job was to make 9 blocks for a Swap that is happening later in the year and 1 small Spring quilt for another Swap I've entered, due in April ,and I can't even show them to you. Later!

The next one on the list is a wallhanging for my new Grandson and here is one block for you to see. The quilt is full of Australian animals and this is the Desert Lizard. I used my reproduction fabrics for all of them and they have worked out wonderfully. I've spent the last week and a half sitting at the sewing machine making the 12 blocks and [ watching the tennis] I'm now at the stage of sewing it together, so it shouldn't be too long before I can reveal all.
